I was recently asked to transform a beautiful home in one of the finest and most imposing properties in Plymouth.
The Millfields is a former Royal Naval Hospital in Stonehouse. It sits on 26 acres of walled grounds and is less than a mile from Plymouth City Centre and the sea.
This fascinating re-development is a designated conservation area belonging to English Heritage. The buildings and grounds are surrounded by the original hospital wall.
The latest phase of the development is Trafalgar, one of the finest and most imposing properties within the city and is the centrepiece of the Royal Naval Hospital which, over 15 years from 1800, treated 15,000 seamen and marines.
Trafalgar is being converted into a series of beautifully appointed and luxurious apartments.
This particular client is one that has been a long-time follower of mine on social media.
She made contact regarding the project as she was keen to change her home from cold whites and greys to something more daring.
She suggested dark and moody and during our consultation we both agreed that blue, green and grey were not her style so I put forward the option of Off Black By Farrow & Ball.
The colour has fantastic depth and undertones which is what really counts rather than just having a colour. I proposed that just painting the walls in this colour wouldn’t be impactful enough and said we should paint everything in this room in Off-Black excluding the window reveals - I wanted to frame the large window and beautiful view from her bedroom window.
The project lasted a week which was slightly longer than expected due to the poor boarding from the build process.
I was also able to improve the walls and remove a lot of the paint sludges and scars using our dustless sanding.
I was really pleased with the outcome. This is a famous Plymouth landmark and I wanted to create a beautiful home which followed Carol’s daring ideas, while staying sensitive to its incredible history.
Overwhelmingly exceeded my expectations on every level. During the early consultation he listened to what I was hoping to achieve and offered creative in-depth advice on colour, effect and the finished look.
He clearly has a strong authority for style and design. Daniel was thorough in his preparation, and his work has totally transformed both my bedrooms into havens of stylish calm and tranquillity, worthy of being featured in any top interior design magazine.
I wish to thank Daniel for his professional approach, his creative talent, innovative modern ideas, and absolute passion and perfection in his work. We will be asking him back.
